Deyvion was just a baby when a fire tore through his apartment, leaving him with severe burns. Firefighters saved him, but he spent years recovering in a special burns unit — and doing it all without a family by his side.
At age 5, everything changed. Beth Plunkett, a single mother of two, became his foster mom.
“I thought he was a beautiful little boy, and I fell in love with him very quickly,” she said. After 2,545 days without a family, Beth officially adopted Deyvion.
“I want him to be happy and always feel loved,” Beth added. “God has an amazing plan for him.”
The firefighters who rescued him never forgot that night. On his adoption day, they surprised him with a custom jacket and hat, then gave him and Beth a ride in their fire truck to court.
Deputy Chief Eric Smith told him, “He’s extremely special. We don’t always understand why things happen — but we do now.”
