Tragic reports have confirmed that at least 13 people were killed and about 98 were injured after a train derailed in Mexico on Sunday.

A statement released by the Navy mentioned how 36 people needed immediate hospital care, and the rest were said to have sustained minor injuries. Hundreds of naval personnel and rescue vehicles were sent to the scene.

An investigation would be opened to figure out the cause of the derailment, the country’s AG Ernestina Godoy mentioned in a post on X. Meanwhile, Mexico’s president also addressed the matter, sharing on X how an immediate investigation was ordered. The interior ministry’s undersecretary for HR would be traveling to the site and personally attending to all the families during this difficult time.
