Boy, 11, Dies After Severe Case of the Flu: ‘Jace Never Even Got to Open His Christmas Gifts’

Posted on December 31, 2025 By admin

An 11-year-old boy from Alabama has passed away after a severe case of the flu.

Jace Watkins died on Saturday after getting hospitalized due to complications linked to the flu, as confirmed by Fox 8.

The child received treatment from the Children’s of Alabama ICU, and during his illness, he is believed to have suffered from serious seizures and had trouble with his breathing, too.

Earlier that same week, his family shared more about how he was not getting enough oxygen to his brain due to the swelling.

His aunt mentioned that he has no previous underlying health issues. ‘He was a premature baby, but other than that, he had inhalers and stuff, but that was many years ago’- she continued. She also mentioned how he told everyone that he felt fine, but then all of a sudden, he started to vomit and had a seizure.

Watkins was a fifth-grade student at the Hueytown Intermediate School. The school’s principal shared a message on his passing, stating how everyone’s hearts are broken this morning after hearing about his shocking death.

‘There are really no words to describe what we are feeling right now’- she continued.
