Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s charitable organization, Archewell Foundation, has been dramatically downsized following a sharp drop in donations and rising operating costs. The foundation has laid off three of its five employees, leaving just two key staff members as it struggles financially.
According to reports, expenses have far exceeded income, with Archewell spending about $5.1 million in 2024 while raising only $2.1 million. Facing mounting losses, the Sussexes reportedly considered closing the foundation or transferring it to a fiscal sponsor to reduce costs.
Last week, the couple announced the foundation’s rebrand to Archewell Philanthropies, stating the move would reduce administrative burdens while keeping its mission focused on community support and mental health.
Amid the restructuring, longtime executive director James Holt announced his departure after eight years with the Sussexes. While stepping down from daily leadership, Holt will continue as a senior advisor as he relocates with his family back to the UK. Vice President of Philanthropy Shauna Nep has also shifted to an advisory role.
The shake-up extends beyond Archewell, with multiple senior staff departures across the Sussexes’ communications and production teams. Insiders claim the workforce across their ventures has dropped by more than 80% in the past year, raising questions about the stability of the Harry and Meghan brand as it undergoes major restructuring.
