Pitbulls often suffer from an unfair reputation, despite being loving, loyal dogs with big hearts. Lara, a pitbull found abandoned and tied to a tree near the Greek port of Nafplion, is proof of that.
Left without food or water, and avoided by neighbors fearful of her breed, Lara was pregnant and gave birth alone in the woods. Despite being malnourished and dehydrated, she protected and fed her puppies for 10 days until rescuers arrived.
Though one puppy sadly didn’t survive, four lived thanks to Lara’s devotion. An animal welfare group rescued the family, and foster caregiver Linda from The Orphan Pet took them in. Traumatized at first, Lara slowly learned to trust again.
Today, Lara and her puppies are safe and thriving—a powerful reminder that pitbulls are capable of extraordinary love and strength.
