Hollywood often pressures women to stay youthful, but actress Justine Bateman has chosen to embrace natural aging instead of cosmetic surgery.
Best known for her role as Mallory on Family Ties, Bateman, now 57, told 60 Minutes Australia she has no interest in altering her appearance. “I think I look rad. My face represents who I am,” she said, adding that she values seeing the life she’s lived reflected in the mirror.
Despite facing harsh criticism about her looks since her 40s and feeling pressure to get Botox or plastic surgery, Bateman eventually rejected those fears. “You’re not going to make that fear go away by changing your face,” she explained, calling cosmetic procedures a form of people-pleasing.
Bateman, who also addressed the topic in her book Face: One Square Foot of Skin, said she feels sad that many women feel distracted by the need to “fix” their faces instead of enjoying life and embracing who they are.
