Minneapolis is facing national outrage after a fatal shooting involving a federal ICE agent left 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good dead. Good, a poet, mother, and beloved community member, was killed during a federal immigration operation on January 7, 2026, in south Minneapolis.
Video from the scene shows her SUV surrounded by law enforcement before shots were fired, after which the vehicle crashed. The Department of Homeland Security said the ICE agent fired in self-defense, claiming Good “weaponized her vehicle” and attempted to strike officers.
City leaders strongly disputed that account. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, the City Council, and state officials demanded accountability, with the council stating that anyone who kills someone in the city should be arrested and prosecuted. Reports also emerged alleging that federal agents prevented lifesaving medical aid.
Good’s family described her as compassionate, kind, and deeply devoted to her community. She leaves behind a six-year-old child. Neighbors and friends remembered her as a warm, generous presence, while hundreds gathered at vigils to honor her life and call for justice.
