For decades, Dyan Cannon dazzled Hollywood with beauty, talent, and charm, earning three Oscar nominations, a Golden Globe win, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Loved for films like Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice, Heaven Can Wait, and Deathtrap, her career spanned generations.
Behind the glamour, however, Cannon faced deep personal struggles — most notably her marriage to Cary Grant. The two met in the early 1960s and married in 1965, despite a 33-year age gap. Cannon later said she loved Grant deeply but felt pressured to abandon her acting career and reshape herself to meet his expectations, losing her sense of identity in the process.
Their marriage ended after just three years, with Cannon alleging emotional and physical mistreatment that pushed her toward a breakdown. Leaving the relationship marked the start of a long journey back to herself.
Her greatest joy came from their daughter, Jennifer, born in 1966 — Cary Grant’s only child. Though offered millions to write a tell-all memoir after Grant’s death, Cannon declined, choosing reflection over revenge.
Now 88, Cannon credits her faith with helping her heal and find peace. A devoted Christian, she hosts Bible studies, volunteers with recovering addicts, and says prayer has kept her grounded through heartbreak.
Looking back, she reflects simply: “It took me a while to find happiness, but I’m a happy puppy now.”
