Rock Legend And Three Dog Night Founder Dead At 83

Posted on February 9, 2026 By admin

Chuck Negron, founding member and iconic voice of the rock band Three Dog Night, has died at 83. He passed away Monday at his home in Studio City, California, surrounded by family. Negron had battled heart failure in recent months and lived with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) for nearly 30 years.

Negron rose to fame in the late 1960s and 1970s as one of the band’s three lead singers, helping create their signature sound. His powerful vocals were featured on major hits like “Joy to the World,” “One,” and “Easy to Be Hard,” making Three Dog Night one of the most successful rock acts of their era.

Born in New York City in 1942, Negron moved to Los Angeles to pursue music. Despite his success, he struggled with heroin addiction and left the band in 1973. After years of hardship, he achieved sobriety in the mid-1980s and rebuilt his life.

In later years, Negron performed as a solo artist and became an advocate for addiction recovery, sharing his journey in his memoir Three Dog Nightmare. His legacy as a legendary rock vocalist remains unforgettable.
