A confidence-boosting procedure has left a Florida family in crisis.
Daidys Peña, 50, had a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) at A&E Med Spa in May 2023. Her husband, Jorge Fernandez, says the surgery caused a pulmonary embolism that left her with severe brain damage, unable to walk, talk, or eat independently.
“She was my first love,” Jorge said. Despite warnings from doctors, Daidys survived but now relies on a feeding tube and 24/7 care.
Jorge has filed a lawsuit against A&E Med Spa and Dr. Fermin Esteban Morales, who performed the procedure. Though licensed as a general surgeon, Morales is not board-certified in plastic surgery. Attorney Lavenia Santos claims the spa misled patients into believing otherwise.
Florida law allows any licensed physician to perform cosmetic procedures, but Santos argues that patients would reconsider if fully informed. Morales’ work has faced scrutiny before, including a patient death earlier this year. A&E Med Spa denies the claims and says Morales no longer works there; Morales has not commented.
Friends have launched a GoFundMe to cover Daidys’ ongoing care, seeking $25,000 after seven months in hospital. Jorge focuses on preventing others from facing a similar tragedy.
