Caleb’s voice turned serious. “Avery, this is significant. We can counter the false claims, but we need a strategic approach.”
“I agree,” I said. “I want to protect myself, not react impulsively.”
We planned next steps: file a police report, consider a restraining order, and gather evidence. I compiled everything—receipts, emails, and security footage showing the party and confrontation.
Within a week, Caleb sent a legal notice with proof of ownership and warned of consequences for further false claims. I also filed my own police report to document the truth.
Soon after, Madison called, asking to talk. I didn’t respond immediately—Caleb advised any discussion be mediated. My mother reached out too, and we agreed to meet in his office.
At the meeting, Caleb firmly outlined the legal risks. Madison apologized, blaming stress. My mother followed, appealing emotionally.
I stayed calm. “I’m willing to move forward,” I said, “but I won’t tolerate lies or disrespect again.”
We left with a formal agreement on record. Driving back to Lake Geneva, I finally felt something I hadn’t in years—peace.
