In India’s Barmer district, a camel reportedly killed its owner, Urjaram, after being left tethered for hours in extreme heat with no water or shade. Temperatures had soared above 109°F, and the distressed animal finally snapped.
Witnesses say the camel, previously pacing and growling, lunged at Urjaram when he approached, flinging him to the ground and ultimately severing his head. Villagers took six hours to restrain the frenzied animal using ropes and a truck. Locals noted a history of tension between the owner and the camel.
While camels are usually seen as gentle giants, experts warn they can be deadly when mistreated. Adult camels weigh up to 2,200 pounds and can crush limbs or necks with bites and kicks. Rare but fatal attacks have occurred worldwide, including in Siberia, Mexico, and zoos, often as retaliation for provocation or abuse.
This tragedy highlights the importance of animal welfare and human responsibility, showing that even docile creatures can become lethal when pushed beyond their limits.
