When my MIL texted, “Meet me. Don’t tell David,” I never expected this. Over coffee, she revealed my husband was cheating and had a plan to make him regret it. All I had to do was play along.
Helen’s message was unlike any I’d received in ten years of marriage: “Meet me. Urgent. Don’t tell David.” I met her at a café where she dropped the bombshell—David was cheating. She’d seen him with another woman. I wasn’t shocked; I’d seen the signs.
“Why are you telling me this?” I asked.
“Because I raised him better,” she replied. “And I’m not letting him get away with it.”
She had a plan. I just needed to follow her lead. The next day, David got a call from his mom, saying her apartment flooded. She moved in with us, bringing chaos and a strange assortment of meals, each designed to annoy David. He was forced to eat dishes he hated, while Helen lectured him on setting an example for the kids.
After a few days, Helen went further—she planted an AirTag in his bag to track his “late meetings.” It led us to a fancy restaurant, where David was with another woman. Helen called his phone, and the restaurant erupted with the sound of my parrot squawking, “I’m a cheater!”
David was visibly shaken, but the real payoff came at a family dinner Helen hosted. With everyone there, she announced she caught him cheating, and I stood up to drop divorce papers on the table. Then Helen revealed she’d updated her will, leaving everything to me and the kids, and nothing to David.
By the end of the night, David had retreated to a hotel, and Helen and I celebrated on the porch. “To new beginnings,” she said.
