I thought the worst part of that day would be my mother-in-law being embarrassed at the grocery store. I was wrong.
After my husband passed, Linda moved in with me and my three kids. We were both grieving, trying to hold life together. One day, while shopping on a tight budget, Linda was holding two cartons of eggs when suddenly—someone shoved her. The eggs fell and shattered everywhere.
It was Brenda—my husband’s sister—who didn’t even apologize. She brushed it off and tried to buy a lottery ticket like nothing happened.
But the cashier and manager stepped in. Security footage proved the truth, and Brenda was forced to leave without the ticket.
The cashier kindly gave that same ticket to Linda.
That night, we scratched it… and won enough money to cover months of bills.
The next day, Brenda showed up demanding a share. I looked at her and said, “If you had apologized, we might have shared.”
Then I closed the door.
For the first time since my husband died… our home felt full of hope again.
