Colombian singer-songwriter Yeison Jiménez, a major star of música popular, has died at age 34 in a plane crash.
On Jan. 10, a small aircraft traveling from Paipa to Medellín crashed between Paipa and Duitama, Colombia. All six people on board were killed, including Jiménez and members of his team. The plane, reportedly linked to his company, crashed shortly after takeoff, and authorities are still investigating the cause.
His team confirmed his death in a statement, calling him not only an artist but also a loving son, friend, and father, and extended condolences to the other victims’ families.
Jiménez was known for his emotional songs about love, struggle, and hope, rising from a difficult background to become one of Colombia’s most popular música popular artists, with millions of fans and sold-out shows.
He is survived by his wife and three children.
