The family of New York Rangers legend Ron Duguay has shared an emotional update on his battle with Stage IV colon cancer, revealing how they have been supporting him — including his girlfriend Sarah Palin.
His daughter Shay Thomas said he was first diagnosed in November 2024 after experiencing fatigue and stomach issues while visiting Palin in Alaska. Further tests revealed the cancer had spread to his liver and other areas.
Since then, Duguay has undergone multiple surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation, including removal of his appendix and gallbladder. Treatment has caused serious side effects, but also some small positives, like hair regrowth.
Sarah Palin has remained deeply involved throughout his illness, often traveling between Alaska and Florida and even staying with him in the hospital after surgery. His daughters also attend appointments and coordinate with doctors.
Recently, his cancer markers rose again, but he has now been approved for a new clinical trial aimed at boosting the body’s immune response against cancer, giving the family renewed hope.
Due to heavy medical costs and his inability to work, the family launched a GoFundMe, which has raised over $109,000 to help cover treatment, travel, and care expenses.
Despite setbacks, Duguay remains determined to recover and eventually give back to others.
