The cruise ship MV Hondius is currently anchored off Cape Verde after a serious health outbreak on board. Three passengers have died, with two confirmed cases linked to the rare Hantavirus.
The ship, operated by Oceanwide Expeditions, left Argentina on March 20 for an Atlantic voyage when passengers began falling ill with symptoms like fever and diarrhea. One Dutch passenger died first, followed by his wife, whose infection was later confirmed. A third death was also reported on board.
Another passenger, a British man, was evacuated in critical condition, while several more suspected cases are under investigation. The WHO is now examining possible spread among passengers.
In total, at least seven cases have been reported, including three deaths, and no one is currently allowed to leave the ship as authorities continue their investigation.
