President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump recently hosted King Charles and Queen Camilla in the U.S. during a visit aimed at strengthening relations, including amid tensions linked to Iran.
During a White House dinner, Trump claimed King Charles supported his stance on preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. Buckingham Palace responded, clarifying that the King remains aligned with the UK government’s long-standing position on nuclear non-proliferation.
Shortly after the visit, Trump again referenced the monarch while announcing on Truth Social that he would lift tariffs on Scottish whisky, framing it as a gesture of respect toward the royal couple and U.S.–UK trade.
Buckingham Palace later thanked Trump for the “thoughtful gesture,” saying it would benefit the whisky industry and related jobs.
The move follows ongoing trade tensions that had included a 10% tariff on imports, impacting whisky producers in both Scotland and Kentucky, with industry leaders urging relief to support both markets.
