A police officer pulled over a man driving 88 in a 55 zone, expecting the usual excuses. Instead, the shaken driver explained he was rushing to the hospital because his daughter, Emily, was in labor with serious complications and kept asking for him.
Realizing the man might not make it through traffic in time, the officer made a risky decision. He told the driver to follow directly behind his cruiser and used his sirens to escort him to the hospital.
When they arrived, the father ran inside just before Emily was taken into emergency surgery. She later revealed she had refused the procedure until her dad arrived because she was terrified and needed him there.
The officer was later questioned by supervisors and state troopers for bending protocol during the escort. But when Emily’s note was read aloud — “That officer did not break up a family on the road. He kept one together.” — the room fell silent.
