Authorities are investigating a fatal incident at Denver International Airport after 41-year-old Michael Mott entered a restricted runway area on May 8, 2026, and was struck by a departing Frontier Airlines plane bound for Los Angeles.
Following the impact, the aircraft experienced an engine issue and passengers were evacuated using emergency slides after smoke appeared inside the cabin. Several people suffered minor injuries during the evacuation.
Investigators believe Mott deliberately breached the airport’s perimeter fence before reaching the active runway. Security systems had reportedly detected movement earlier, but it was initially mistaken for wildlife.
Officials later ruled the death a suicide. Authorities are now reviewing surveillance footage, airport security measures, and emergency response procedures to determine how the breach occurred and how similar incidents can be prevented in the future.
