Brian Lindstrom, acclaimed documentary filmmaker and husband of author Cheryl Strayed, has died at 65 after battling progressive supranuclear palsy, a rare brain disease.
Strayed shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram, saying she and their children, Carver and Bobbi, were by his side as he passed away. She described him as a man who lived with “gentleness and courage, grace and gratitude.”
Just weeks earlier, Strayed revealed Lindstrom had been diagnosed with a fatal illness, leading her to cancel public appearances and focus on her family. Despite the tragedy, previously recorded episodes of her podcast would still be released.
The couple, together since 1995, shared a deeply supportive relationship, encouraging each other’s creative careers. Strayed often credited Lindstrom for believing in her and supporting her through her journey as a writer.
As fans continue sending messages of love and support, Strayed’s story stands as a reminder of the strength, love, and heartbreak that exist behind public lives.
