Kaylee Muthart, a woman from South Carolina who went viral after tearing out her own eyes during a meth-induced psychotic episode in 2018, says she has “no regrets” despite recently losing her job.
At 20 years old, Kaylee struggled with drug addiction and suffered a terrifying hallucination that convinced her she needed to remove her eyes to save the world. The incident left her permanently blind, but she later overcame her addiction and began rebuilding her life.
Recently, Kaylee revealed she was fired from her restaurant job after repeatedly taking food from the kitchen to feed a stray cat and her kittens. Even after being warned by the owner, she continued because she believed it was the right thing to do.
Although losing her job was difficult, Kaylee said she remains at peace with her decision. She now wears prosthetic eyes and says that despite her blindness, she is happier than she was during her years of addiction.
“I’d rather be blind than dependent on drugs,” she said.
