In 2016, 29-year-old Wisconsin farmer Michael Biadasz lost his life in a tragic farming accident caused by toxic manure gas. On what seemed like a normal morning, Mike was preparing a manure pit for hauling when rare weather conditions trapped deadly gases like methane and hydrogen sulfide near the ground. The fumes quickly overcame him, along with 16 nearby cows.
Mike was remembered as a hardworking, kind-hearted farmer who deeply impacted his community. More than 1,200 people attended his visitation, showing how many lives he had touched. After the tragedy, his family created the Mike Biadasz Farm Safety and Education Memorial Fund to raise awareness about the hidden dangers of manure gas and help prevent similar accidents on farms.
Today, his legacy lives on through farm safety education, advocacy, and efforts to protect farmers from invisible dangers many never realize exist.
