Mufasa, a mountain lion in Peru, spent 20 heartbreaking years chained to the back of a circus pickup truck, living in misery just to entertain people. Thankfully, in 2015, animal rescuers from Animal Defenders International finally freed him after shutting down the circus.
For the first time in his life, Mufasa experienced freedom and nature instead of fear and chains. Sadly, years of abuse had badly damaged his health, and only months after being rescued, he passed away from kidney failure and age-related illnesses.
Although his freedom came late, Mufasa’s story became a powerful reminder of the cruelty many animals still face in circuses and captivity. At least before he died, he finally got to feel what it meant to live free.
