Before becoming Meghan Markle, she was a biracial girl growing up in Los Angeles, often struggling to feel like she truly belonged. Raised by her Black mother, Doria Ragland, and white father, Thomas Markle Sr., Meghan described herself as a “latchkey kid” who grew up on microwave dinners while her parents worked hard to support her.
As a child and teenager, Meghan faced insecurities about her identity, saying she felt “not Black enough” for some roles and “not white enough” for others. Despite financial struggles, she worked from a young age, dreamed big, and discovered acting while visiting TV sets with her father.
Her determination eventually led her to fame through Suits before she married Prince Harry in 2018 and became the Duchess of Sussex.
In recent years, Meghan has also opened up about painful personal struggles, including postpartum preeclampsia and a miscarriage, while continuing to speak about identity, motherhood, and resilience.
