Prince Harry Appeals Security Ruling, Says Couple ‘Felt Forced to Step Back’
Prince Harry told the Court of Appeal that he and Meghan Markle “felt forced to step back” from royal duties in 2020 due to lack of institutional protection, though they intended to support the late Queen as privately funded royals.
The duke, 40, is appealing a High Court ruling that upheld the Home Office’s decision to downgrade his UK security after stepping down as a senior royal. His legal team argued the decision left him and his family vulnerable.
Harry arrived in London Sunday, just before King Charles and Queen Camilla departed for a four-day state visit to Italy. The King, 76, continues to face health issues following cancer treatment.
Tuesday marked the first day of hearings, with some proceedings scheduled to be held in private due to sensitive information. Home Office lawyers defended the security decision, citing Harry’s changed status and overseas residence.
