Students surprise WWII Veteran with high school prom as he missed it to serve his country!

Posted on May 28, 2026 By admin

WWII veteran Ray Svejnoha missed his high school prom more than 80 years ago after being called to serve his country before graduation. Now, at 100 years old, he finally got the prom night he never had, thanks to a group of thoughtful high school students in Illinois.

Students from Metea Valley High School secretly organized a special prom invitation for Ray after learning his story through a community program. They surprised him with patriotic decorations and a sign reading, “82 years late, but right on time.”

The community came together to give Ray the full prom experience, including a tuxedo, haircut, and a ride in a vintage trolley. When he arrived at the dance, students cheered and welcomed him onto the dance floor.

Deeply moved by the gesture, Ray thanked the students and praised their kindness, calling the unforgettable night one he would cherish forever.
