Heartbreaking Details Emerge from Hudson Helicopter Crash
Tragic new details have surfaced after a sightseeing helicopter crash in New York’s Hudson River claimed the lives of a family of five visiting from Barcelona.
Just 18 minutes into their tour, the helicopter lost control and plunged into the river near Pier A Park in Hoboken. Witnesses reported seeing parts of the aircraft detach mid-air, describing a loud “sonic boom” as the rotor flew off.
The pilot had radioed base minutes into the flight to report low fuel and attempted to return, but the chopper never made it back.
The victims were identified as Agustín Escobar, a Siemens rail executive, his wife Merce Camprubi, also a Siemens manager, and their children, aged 11, 5, and 4. The family was in New York to celebrate a birthday.
Owned by Meridian Helicopters and operated by New York Helicopter, the Bell 206 aircraft is the latest in a series of crashes — 32 people have died in NYC helicopter accidents since 1977.
Siemens expressed deep sorrow over the loss, and the CEO of New York Helicopter said his company is devastated.
This once-in-a-lifetime trip ended in unthinkable tragedy — a painful reminder of how quickly life can change.
