Dr. Daniel Kenigsberg was shocked to discover a nearly $1.5 million home being built on a Connecticut lot his family had owned since 1953. He had inherited the land from his parents, paid taxes on it for years, and never intended to sell it.
The shocking discovery came after a childhood friend told him construction was underway on the property. When Kenigsberg visited the site, he found a large house being built where the wooded lot once stood.
Court documents allege scammers impersonated Kenigsberg, forged his signature, and used fake documents to sell the land to developers for $350,000 without his knowledge. The developers claim they were victims of the fraud as well and had no idea the seller was an imposter.
Kenigsberg has filed a lawsuit seeking up to $2 million in damages and wants the sale voided. Construction on the home has been halted as the legal battle continues. Calling the situation “offensive and wrong,” he said he is angry that negligence allowed the fraud to happen on land that held more than 70 years of family history.
