Every parent fears their child going missing, and that fear became reality when a 2-year-old girl disappeared from her home in New York.
As her family and authorities searched desperately, New York State Trooper Brian Hotchkiss joined the rescue effort. After checking nearby homes without success, he became concerned as darkness and colder temperatures approached.
Knowing there was a nearby mountain overlooking woods and streams, Hotchkiss climbed to the top for a better view. At first, he saw only trees, but then he noticed a small pink dot in the distance. Remembering that the missing girl was wearing a pink shirt, he headed toward it and discovered it was the child.
Thanks to his quick thinking and determination, the 2-year-old was safely found in a remarkable rescue that Hotchkiss says he will never forget.
