‘He’ll Have to Go’ took over country & pop charts in 1960!

Posted on June 7, 2026 By admin

In 1960, country legend Jim Reeves released “He’ll Have to Go,” a song that transformed both country and pop music. Written by Joe and Audrey Allison and inspired by a real-life phone conversation, the track showcased Reeves’ smooth vocals and emotional delivery.

Produced by Chet Atkins, the song topped the country charts and reached No. 2 on the pop charts, helping popularize the polished “Nashville Sound.” Its success made Reeves an international star and influenced future crossover artists.

Tragically, Reeves died in a plane crash in 1964 at age 40, but “He’ll Have to Go” remains one of country music’s most beloved classics. Covered by artists including Elvis Presley, the song continues to inspire new generations and stands as a timeless symbol of country music’s emotional power.
