Beloved ‘ALF’ TV Mom Dies Aged 77

Posted on June 15, 2026 By admin

Television has lost one of its most familiar faces. Anne Schedeen, best known as Kate Tanner on the NBC sitcom ALF, has died at the age of 77.

Her family confirmed the news in a Facebook statement, remembering her as a “force” full of creativity, humor, and love for her family, art, and animals. They also said she leaves behind a lasting legacy of “joie de vivre” and asked fans to “raise a margarita in her honor.”

Born in 1949 in Portland, Oregon, Schedeen was a naturally shy child who found confidence through drama classes. That path led her to a long Hollywood career, with appearances on shows like The Six Million Dollar Man, Cheers, and Murder, She Wrote.

Her most iconic role came in ALF (1986–1990), where she played Kate Tanner, the calm and emotional center of the chaotic alien sitcom. The role made her a beloved presence in millions of homes.

Beyond acting, she was also an artist, creating paintings, sculptures, and jewelry, and she supported charitable causes including Habitat for Humanity.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, her daughter, family members, and her rescue dogs.

Fans will remember Anne Schedeen as the warm, grounding heart of ALF and a talented actress whose presence brought comfort and charm to television.
