At a UFC event held at the White House marking America’s 250th anniversary, fighter Josh Hokit drew backlash after making a controversial post-fight comment falsely referring to Michelle Obama in an offensive way.
According to reports, a lip reader later claimed that Donald Trump made a brief 8-word remark to Hokit afterward, saying: “Too kind, thank you. You are the champion.”
The moment followed Hokit’s post-fight interview praising the event hosted by Trump, where he made the disputed comment that quickly spread online.
Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White later criticized making “nasty and false” remarks about people’s families, while also defending free speech but distancing himself from that kind of commentary.
Marco Rubio also spoke at the event, comparing the occasion to major historic achievements and praising UFC and the event’s symbolism.
