Two Tragic Outdoor Accidents in Brazil Leave Communities in Shock

Brazil is mourning after a 59-year-old woman, Rosemary Suzart Garcia, died in a hiking accident at the Grutas do Spar trail in Maricá.

Garcia was hiking with a group and a guide when she stepped onto a narrow path near a cliffside viewpoint. Witnesses say she lost her balance while applying insect repellent and fell approximately 100 feet.

A guide reportedly tried to grab her as she slipped, but was unable to удерж her and narrowly avoided falling himself. Emergency services later recovered her body, but she did not survive.

Authorities have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the fall.

The tragedy comes just one day after the death of 21-year-old Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, who died during a rope-jumping activity in São Paulo state after a reported safety failure.

Two back-to-back incidents have raised concern and left many in Brazil grieving and calling for improved safety measures in outdoor activities.
