What was meant to be a joyful bachelorette trip for Jade Jones, fiancée of NBA star Tyrese Haliburton, ended in tragedy when 26-year-old Makenzi Kern unexpectedly passed away on June 8 while vacationing in St. Barts with friends.
According to reports, Kern suffered health-related complications, and her family does not believe alcohol, drugs, or foul play were involved. Just two days after celebrating her 26th birthday, she died surrounded by close friends during the Caribbean getaway.
A graduate of Iowa State University and Membership Director at a YMCA in Omaha, Kern was remembered for her kindness, generosity, and love of life. Friends and family described her as someone who brightened every room and always put others first.
She is survived by her family, boyfriend, and countless friends. Neither Haliburton nor Jones has publicly commented on the loss.
