‘War of the Worlds’ Star Dies at 96

Ann Robinson, the actress best known for starring in the 1953 sci-fi classic The War of the Worlds, has died at the age of 96.

Robinson passed away on Sept. 26 at her Los Angeles home, her granddaughter Tori Bravo confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter. Her death was only announced publicly now.

She became famous as Sylvia Van Buren alongside Gene Barry in The War of the Worlds, one of the most influential sci-fi films of its time. She later appeared in TV series including Dragnet, Perry Mason, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, and Peter Gunn.

A favorite among sci-fi fans, Robinson returned to the franchise in the 1980s and made a cameo in Steven Spielberg’s 2005 remake starring Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning, cementing her lasting legacy in science-fiction history.
