24-year-old Caitlin Leggett from Cardiff, Wales, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia, an aggressive form of blood cancer. Doctors initially told her she had six months to live, but she tragically passed away just one month later.
After her diagnosis, Caitlin and her sister Grace discovered they were actually identical twins. This shocking revelation meant Grace was not eligible to donate stem cells due to their nearly identical DNA.
Caitlin briefly went into remission after chemotherapy and a transplant, but the cancer returned. With no curative options available in the UK, the family tried raising funds for treatment abroad.
Her sister Grace described Caitlin as her best friend and lifelong companion, saying they had always done everything together.
In June 2025, Grace announced the heartbreaking news that Caitlin had died following a sudden brain bleed and complications.
She passed away peacefully, surrounded by family.
