Performance artist Marina Abramović revealed that she experienced nine orgasms during a controversial 2005 performance at New York’s Guggenheim Museum. The piece was a recreation of artist Vito Acconci’s famous work Seedbed, in which she remained hidden beneath a ramp while visitors walked above her.
Abramović later admitted the performance was physically exhausting and one of the most challenging experiences of her career. She said the project explored taboos, the limits of performance art, and the connection between the body and artistic expression.
