Private investigator Bill Garcia believes missing 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie, may have been abducted in Arizona by individuals linked to a cartel, though he thinks she was likely not taken into Mexico.
Nancy was reported missing from her Tucson home on Feb. 1, with authorities suspecting she was taken overnight. Surveillance footage shows a masked suspect at her front door, and police have confirmed blood was found on the porch.
While some officials have suggested possible kidnapping motives including revenge, investigators have ruled out a simple burglary. Garcia argues the suspect appears unprofessional and may be a low-level associate involved in a “money-making” operation.
Authorities disagree on whether Nancy remains in Tucson or may have been moved elsewhere, but no official conclusion has been reached.
