A British influencer, Brooke George, could potentially face the death penalty if convicted of murder in Dubai.
She is accused of fatally stabbing a British man after they met through social media. According to reports from campaign group Detained in Dubai, George claims she acted in self-defense after being attacked.
She was arrested at Dubai International Airport on June 22 while attempting to return to the UK and is currently being held at Bur Dubai jail. Her family and supporters say she had previously reported being assaulted and feared for her safety, arguing that the incident occurred in the context of ongoing violence.
Authorities in the UAE have not yet confirmed the full circumstances, and the case remains under investigation.
