John Forté, best known for his work with The Fugees and the Refugee Camp All-Stars, has died at his home in Massachusetts. Authorities said his death was sudden, with no suspicion of foul play, and the cause is still unknown.
Forté was a Grammy-nominated artist who helped shape the success of The Fugees’ iconic album The Score in 1996. He also collaborated with artists like Wyclef Jean, Busta Rhymes, and A Tribe Called Quest, and released solo albums including Poly Sci and I, John.
He was arrested in 2000 on drug charges and sentenced to 14 years in prison, later commuted in 2008. He is survived by his wife and two children.
