Parents say goodbye to their newborn as life support is switched off, then he starts breathing immediately

Posted on April 20, 2025 By admin

Pregnancy and labor can be frightening, with every mom hoping for a healthy baby. But for Chelsea Hough, the joy turned into heartbreak when her son Karson was born with severe medical complications and placed on a ventilator.

Her mother, Lisa Hough, shared the painful journey online. Karson was diagnosed with two rare, unrelated conditions: a hemorrhage in his left temporal lobe and Non-ketotic hyperglycinemia (NKH), a severe genetic disorder. Doctors warned he would be severely impaired and unlikely to survive.

Faced with impossible odds, Chelsea made the heartbreaking decision to remove life support. But then, the unimaginable happened—Karson began breathing on his own. His heart rate and oxygen stabilized, and he defied every medical prediction.

“We were told he wouldn’t breathe, swallow, or survive,” Lisa wrote. “But he’s doing all of that. It’s a miracle.”

On March 1, the family received the joyful news that Karson would be coming home. Thousands have followed their story online, celebrating the little miracle who beat the odds.

We wish this beautiful family continued strength, health, and happiness.
