One of my biggest fears is a house fire. That’s why I always unplug my phone charger at night and check my smoke alarms.
But I’d never heard this warning from Jason Whitaker in Kentucky.
In 2019, Jason noticed a strange smell in his home and eventually traced it to a spiral light bulb packed with ladybugs. The bulb had been in use for years, and the insects, drawn to the warmth, had nested inside—nearly causing a fire.
He posted a warning on Facebook: “These light bulbs will burn your house down.” His post, shared over 430,000 times, shows how easily something like this can go unnoticed.
Others have had similar experiences, and while the goal isn’t to alarm, it’s a reminder to check your bulbs—and the rest of your lights. A few minutes could prevent disaster.
