College Football Player Ben Conken Dies at 20 After Cancer Battle
Ben Conken, a talented football player who had signed with the University of West Florida, died on August 17 at just 20 years old after battling cancer.
Conken was part of West Florida’s 2024 recruiting class. The 6-foot-3 linebacker starred at Cottage Hill Christian Academy in Mobile, Alabama, recording 85 tackles, 10 sacks and five forced fumbles during his senior season.
Even after his diagnosis, Conken continued supporting the football program and remained part of the Argonaut family.
His former coach remembered him not only as a fierce competitor, but as someone whose kindness and character made a lasting impact on others.
Away from football, Ben loved hunting, fishing and spending time outdoors with his family. He also volunteered with Camp Smile, where he touched the lives of campers and counselors.
His family said his faith, family and friends remained central to him throughout his final days.
Ben is survived by his parents, Christopher and Christine, his siblings Will and Molly, and his grandparents.
He will be remembered as a gifted athlete, devoted family member and kind-hearted young man who made a difference far beyond the football field.
