Ben Conken, a talented football player who had committed to the University of West Florida, has died at just 20 years old after battling cancer.
Conken was part of West Florida’s 2024 recruiting class. The 6-foot-3 linebacker starred at Cottage Hill Christian Academy in Mobile, Alabama, where he recorded 85 tackles, 10 sacks, and five forced fumbles during his senior season.
He was diagnosed with cancer shortly after joining West Florida but continued supporting the football program and remained part of the Argonaut family.
Beyond football, Conken was remembered for his kindness, strong character, love of the outdoors, and devotion to his family and faith.
“He was a high character guy, great family, hard worker,” coach Carvel Jones said. “He was a dawg on the football field but he was a great person off the field.”
Conken died surrounded by loved ones on August 17.
He is survived by his parents, Christopher and Christine, his siblings Will and Molly, and his grandparents.
He will be remembered not only as a gifted athlete, but as someone who made a lasting impact on everyone around him.
