Two Men Pulled Alive From Flooded Nepal Hydropower Tunnel

Rescue teams in Nepal have pulled two men alive from a flooded hydropower tunnel, days after catastrophic floods swept through the region.

The men, identified as Sanjaya Shah and Kabir Maharjan, were trapped inside the Trishuli 3A Hydropower Project. Both suffered injuries to their hands and legs and were airlifted to a hospital in Kathmandu.

The rescue comes as authorities continue searching for hundreds of people still missing after devastating flooding near the Nepal-China border.

Tragically, rescuers also discovered the body of a third person inside the tunnel. Officials said the body was badly swollen and could not immediately be identified.

Rescue operations remain difficult, with mud, soil and debris blocking several hydropower tunnels. Teams have recovered additional bodies, while authorities are collecting DNA samples to identify victims whose remains are no longer recognizable.

The dramatic rescues have given families a small measure of hope as emergency teams continue their desperate search for survivors.
