It had been eleven months since my husband died, and life was still difficult for both me and Lisa. She didn’t want to attend prom without her father, and we couldn’t afford the dress she had fallen in love with.
So I secretly cut and sold my long hair—the hair my husband had always loved—and used the money to buy her the beautiful sunset-colored gown.
On prom night, I sat proudly in the audience, waiting to see her wear it.
But when Lisa’s name was called, she walked onto the stage wearing jeans, a T-shirt, and her old jacket.
My heart sank.
