They called the police on me because my baby granddaughter was crying in a café.
I’m 72, and last year I lost my only daughter during childbirth. Now I’m raising little Amy alone.
After a difficult pediatrician visit, I stopped at a café to escape the rain and feed her.
But a woman complained, the waitress told me to leave, and soon two police officers arrived.
“Ma’am, we were told you’re disturbing customers.”
Then the younger officer took Amy in his arms.
“My sister has three kids. I’m a wizard with babies.”
Within seconds, Amy was peacefully drinking her bottle.
The officer looked at the manager.
“So the disturbance was just a hungry baby?”
The officers bought us coffee and pie before leaving.
Three days later, my cousin called.
“Maggie! You’re in the newspaper!”
A photo of me and Amy had gone viral, exposing how the café had treated us.
A week later, I returned.
The sign on the door read:
“Babies Welcome. No Purchase Necessary.”
Sometimes, kindness walks in wearing a uniform.
