My Husband’s Final Wish Was to Donate His Organs — Then His Doctor Gave Me a Secret Envelope
Mark and I had finally become pregnant after years of trying when doctors told us he had only months to live.
One night, with his hand on my belly, he said, “If I can’t be here for our daughter, I want to help another family have more time.”
After Mark died, I signed the papers honoring his final wish.
Just as I was leaving, his doctor stopped me.
“Mark left something for you. He made me promise not to give it to you until he was gone.”
Inside was a flash drive and a note:
“Watch this if someone makes you doubt me — or yourself.”
My mother-in-law had been telling everyone Mark wasn’t in the right state of mind when he made the decision.
So I watched the video.
Mark appeared on the screen.
“Donation was my choice,” he said. “Don’t make Sally prove she loved me by agreeing with you.”
Then he added:
“Don’t put our daughter in the middle. She’s not something I left behind. She gets to become herself.”
I burst into tears.
Mark hadn’t left me one final goodbye.
He had left me the truth.
