I Tattooed My Granddaughter’s Drawing on My Arm—Then My Husband Demanded I Remove It.
My six-year-old granddaughter, Natalie, gave me a simple drawing that said:
“I LOVE YOU NANA.”
I loved it so much that I had it permanently tattooed on my arm.
When Natalie saw it, she was overjoyed.
But when my husband Rob saw the tattoo, everything changed.
“Tattoos are trashy. You ruined your body.”
Then he said something even crueler:
“I’m not attracted to you anymore.”
He demanded that I remove it.
But I couldn’t understand why he was so angry. I had told him about the tattoo beforehand, and he hadn’t objected.
Something felt wrong.
So I called Rob’s brother, Dean.
After a long silence, Dean finally said:
“Betty… this has nothing to do with your tattoo.”
Then he asked:
“Don’t you know what Natalie told Rob?”
My heart dropped.
A few weeks earlier, Natalie had seen Rob with another woman.
She remembered one detail clearly:
The woman had a butterfly tattoo.
And Natalie had seen Rob kiss her.
Rob had never told me.
Suddenly, his anger about my tattoo made sense.
He wasn’t angry because of the ink.
He was terrified that Natalie’s innocent drawing might lead me to the truth.
I confronted him.
At first, he denied everything.
Then he admitted he had kissed the woman.
But by then, I knew there was more to the story.
I eventually filed for divorce.
Months later, when Natalie saw how sad I was, she hugged me and looked at the tattoo on my arm.
“You still have me,” she whispered.
Then she called herself my “forever forever.”
That was when I realized something:
My marriage wasn’t destroyed by a tattoo.
